The body of a young woman is pulled from the River Thames. Assuming the woman was a prostitute, the police are slow to look for a killer. In steps Sherlock Holmes who discovers that she is the beloved daughter of London's most aristocratic families and that the killer uses the cover of fog to snatch the daughters of the establishment from their parents' homes.
